Broomhedge v Banbridge AFC
Broomhedge started the match in fine form hoping to get their second home win of the season and for the first 17 mins it was a totally one sided affair with the home side having a string of chances most falling to strikers Addis and Thompson but some poor decision making from the center forward pairing meant Broom failed to get on the score sheet.
As easy as it sounds some simple passing in and around the 18 yard box and Broomhedge would have been 4 up.
But as so often happens with this team they try and play an offside line that works if they all combine but fails when they dont. Unfortunately for the home side Banbridges first attack resulted in a goal, a ball threaded through the defence line who had got caught totally flat footed fell straight to the visiting center forward who beat the offside trap and and had time to pick his spot in the bottom corner of the goal giving Green in nets no chance.
Now this should have been a wake up call to the home defence but 5 minutes later the same thing happened a ball played in and both central defenders stepped up thinking it was offside but Lynn playing left back got caught napping and played two players onside who took the gift and made it 2-0 to Banbridge.
On 37 mins Broomhedge got one back when a pass from Addis found Thompson inside the box and he finished well.
Half time Broomhedge 1 - Banbridge AFC 2
After their hard work getting themselves back in to the game what Broomhedge didnt need was to get caught cold at the start of the second half and thats just what happened, in the 65th min keeper Green came rushing out to the right winger, who skipped round him and crossed the ball for the on coming midfielder to slide and tap the ball into an empty net totally unchallenged. Something had to change and quick, the manager made the decision to go 3 at the back and 5 in the middle of the park which saw Stevenson coming on for left back Darren Lynn. Credit has to go to all the team for the second week running for picking themselves up and continuing to battle even when it looked like the game would slip away from them.
Broomhedges second goal came when AFC's keeper could only half clear his punch from an in swinging corner and as the ball dropped Darren Addis made amends for his earlier misses when he scored an acrobatic overhead kick which would not have looked out of place in the Premier League. As Broom started to push the visiting defence started to drop deeper and deeper into their own half as they tried to protect their slender 1 goal lead.
Broomhedges captain William Walker led by example and with more and more space developing he rushed forward and played a great one two with substitute Stevenson on the right hand side of the pitch, as Walker cut inside he was upended just inside the 18yard box penalty!!! Donaghy on his first full return from injury stepped up and calmly slotted the pen into the bottom left hand corner sending the keeper the wrong way.
After this Banbridge fell apart and the 3 points were there for the taking, with 5 mins to go a sloppy back pass from a Banbridge defender gave Addis an opportunity to make a challenge on the keeper, he showed great bravery as he slid in on the 50-50 ball and he was rewarded as the keeper pulled out slightly, the ball broke free and Addis was quick to his feet he took no time at all and with a first time shot from an acute angle gave Broomhedge the lead for the first time in the match. Banbridge were well and trully beaten infact Broomhedge could have had another 2 in the final few minutes. This was another great performance from Broomhedge as they showed amazing determenation and team spirit, they really are turning into a never say die team which is excellent news for the whole club.
Result 4-3 to Broomhedge.
