Report

30/07/09
Home match for Broomhedge against Lisburn outfit Lambeg Rangers
Kick of 7pm and referee was Andy Chapman
Straight from the kick off Broomhedge looked in fine form and attacked Lambeg putting them under pressure and in the 6th min it paid off. A great defence splitting ball from midfielder Donaghy to striker James Thompson, who finished off superbly with a great lob over the keeper from an acute angle outside the box.
Then in the 15th min some great inter-play on the right wing between Stevenson and Thompson who placed a pin perfect cross straight to the feet of Addis who had time to stop the ball and score at the far post. Broomhedge were flying high and at times their two touch football was breath taking they continued to dominate for the remainder of the first half limiting Lambeg to just on chance which was brilliantly saved by Green following a slight moment of hesitation in the defence.
Half time score 2 - 0
Three changes for broomhedge in the second half.On came Adrian stevenson,Andy Vaughn and Mark Corbett.
Broomhedge started the second half just as the first had finished and they continued putting the pressure on the Lambeg defence, in the 55th min Lambeg launched a long ball out of their half and onto the edge of the Broomhedge 18 yd line were McClements made what looked to be a perfectly good tackle but unfortunately was adjudged to have fouled the Lambeg player, referee Chapman awarded a penalty. A perfectly placed penalty taken by Stuart Adams gave Corbett no chance.
Broomhedge never panicked but immediately got back into their rhythm. This soon paid off when a goal bound shot beat the keeper and was handled on the line by a Lambeg defender. Donaghy stepped up and scored from the spot. On 65 mins Noel Cummins had a great effort hit the crossbar after some outstanding play from full back Murphy who was a stalwart throughout the game for Broomhedge. In the 87th min Alan Stevenson run onto a great ball he tried to round the keeper but took it too far, just when it looked like the opportunity had gone, Stevenson swung a cross back into the box for substitute Houston to score his first goal of the season with a simple right foot tap in.
Result 4 1 to Broomhedge.
Every player in a Broomhedge shirt should hold their heads high after this performance and with this sort of form two weeks before the start of the league hopes for something special this season are very high.
Usually we select one player for man of the match but there were too many who could have received it, special mention must go to Mark Donaghy and James Thompson who worked tirelessly throughout the game, two other players who must receive a mention were Noel Cummins and Phillip Murphy who had their best games to date in a Broomhedge Kit.
